Story Behind the Name

When deciding on a business name, we threw a few around. It was Autumn 2016, and we were cruising around the Pacific Islands lamenting about working for others. What we wanted was to work together, doing something we are good at and what we love. Something that will provide us with a work purpose and an avenue to helping others.

When we decided on our business, we couldn’t go past Books In Order as a business name. It is simple and to the point and says exactly what we aim for – to get the books in order.

Neale’s BIO

Mel and I worked out early that we loved spending time together. We thought it would be great to work together and after careful consideration of a couple of options we decided on a bookkeeping business as bookkeeping and accounting was Mel’s background and I love new directions.

As someone who always liked taking on challenges and having worked across different industries, my very diverse background, extensive experience, and qualifications in management has given me a solid base in many different areas. Industries such as Food & Beverage Management, Conference Management, Body Corporate Management and now in the Accounting & Bookkeeping sphere, where all my experience and knowledge can be utilised. I have completed a Diploma in Accounting and I am now a registered BAS Agent.

Relationships and children and now grandchildren have had some of the biggest influences on my life. There is nothing like being with or thinking about your children and your grandchildren.

A famous philosopher, Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones, once said there is no greater love than that of a grandchild, I agree.

Mel’s BIO

I have always had a passion for photography and even created a business from this passion. It wasn’t until later that the analytical and ‘numbers focus’ passion was discovered. AKA not all of us bookkeepers are just book/numbers nerds – we all have our passions as well.

Fast forward to my early thirties when I started my degree while raising children and working. Over the last 25 years I have worked in areas such as banking, insurance, customer service, accounting & audit firms, as well as a few businesses of my own. I am now a registered BAS and still love to learn every day.

Meeting Neale 9 years ago has had a huge impact on every area of life. We have a common background, 3 children each and we just “get it”. The joy of having my 3 boys in my life, is the most wonderful thing for me.  Now we have 6 children and 3 grandchildren between us, travelling the world and getting to hang out every day together.

5 years ago, Neale & I decided we just wanted to do something together. To work together in a business doing something that made us happy and helped other business owners. So we brought our skill sets, work history and experiences together and our bookkeeping business was born!

We have always been drawn to helping clients get it right, rather than telling them where they went wrong and finding issues….
